BANG PA-IN ROYAL PALACE

The palace was used as a summer dwelling by several kings of the Ayutthaya ancient kingdoms and their consorts. The complex comprises of several beautiful buildings in European, Thai, and Chinese architecture dotted around a manicured park. If you do not want to explore the complex on foot, golf buggies are available for rent for 400 THB per hour (Oct, 2019).

HOY KHA BLOOD NOODLE SOUP RESTAURANT

A famous restaurant among Thai people, the open-air restaurant sits on the Chao Phraya river. You may sit facing the river and let your feet touch the water, that's where the name Hoy Kha (hanging legs) came about.

  • Main dishes (for one person): pork blood noodle soup with soft boiled egg, shrimp Pad Thai

WAT MAHATHAT TEMPLE

The large monastery features a huge central prang (main stupa), a very large principal viharn (image hall) and ubosot (chapel) and a great number of subsidiary chedis (stupa) and viharns. The upper part of the central prang has collapsed.

WAT YAI PHAR SI SANPHET TEMPLE

Featuring 3 huge prang (stupa), this temple is most beautiful one in the ancient Ayutthaya kingdom and served as a model for Wat Phra Kaew in Bangkok. Each stupa contains either Buddha's or Ayutthaya king's relics.

WAT CHAI WATTANARAM TEMPLE

Entrance fee : 50 THB

The temple was constructed in 1630. It has a central 35-meter-high prang in Khmer style with four smaller prang. The prangs, facing Chao Phraya river are located on a beautifully manicured lawn.

WAT YAI CHAI MONGKHON TEMPLE

This one of the most visited temple in Ayutthaya has a long and illustrious history. Unlike many of other temples in Ayutthaya, this is still an active temple where monks reside.

  • main bell-shaped chedi; you can climb the steps leading up to a platform for views over the complex
  • gallery surrounds the chedi lined with dozens of stone Buddha images
  • a reclining Buddha
